The people behind your book

BookWaveCore Digital was founded on a simple belief: every manuscript holds a story worth sharing, and every author deserves a team that treats their work with the same care they poured into writing it. Based in the Australian Capital Territory, we have spent years refining our craft so you can focus on yours.

Our story

From a spare bedroom to a full-service book studio — here is how we got here.

BookWaveCore Digital started in 2018 when our founder, Margot Ashfield, left a decade-long career in traditional publishing to help independent authors access the same calibre of editorial and design services that major publishing houses enjoy. What began as a one-person freelance operation quickly grew as word spread through writers' groups, literary festivals, and online communities.

By 2020, the team had expanded to five specialists covering editing, design, and distribution. The pandemic accelerated demand for digital book services, and we responded by investing in secure cloud-based workflows that let us collaborate with authors anywhere in Australia — and increasingly, around the world. Today, our team of twelve handles more than 200 book projects every year, spanning fiction, non-fiction, memoir, academic texts, and children's literature.

Despite our growth, we have remained intentionally boutique. We limit the number of projects we take on at any given time so that every author receives personalised attention. Your book is never just another file in a queue — it is a creative partnership that we take seriously from the first conversation to the final proof.

What we stand for

Our values guide every decision we make, from how we hire to how we handle your manuscript.

Craft over speed

We never rush a book to meet an arbitrary deadline at the expense of quality. Our timelines are realistic and our processes are thorough. Every comma, every cover element, and every metadata field is reviewed with intention because the details are what separate a good book from a great one.

Honest communication

We tell you what your manuscript needs, not just what you want to hear. Our editors provide candid, constructive feedback that strengthens your writing. If we think a different approach would serve your book better, we will say so — respectfully and with clear reasoning.

Author ownership

Your book is yours. We never claim rights to your work, and we structure every agreement so that full intellectual property transfers to you upon payment. We are service providers, not gatekeepers, and we believe the publishing industry needs more of that mindset.

Inclusivity and access

Great stories come from everywhere. We actively seek to work with diverse voices and under-represented authors. Our pricing is structured to be accessible, and we offer flexible payment plans so that financial constraints do not stand between a writer and a professionally produced book.

Our journey so far

Key milestones that have shaped BookWaveCore Digital into the book services partner authors trust today.

2018 — The beginning

Margot Ashfield registers BookWaveCore Digital as a sole trader in Jenkinsview, ACT. The first three clients are local authors she meets at a Canberra writers' festival. Services are limited to copy editing and proofreading, delivered from a home office with a single desk and an overflowing bookshelf.

2019 — First cover design

Daniel Okafor joins as a contractor, and the company begins offering cover design alongside editing. The first cover he creates — for a debut thriller — goes on to win a regional design award, putting BookWaveCore Digital on the map in the indie publishing community.

2020 — Going digital-first

The pandemic forces a rethink of workflows. We invest in cloud-based project management and encrypted file sharing, enabling seamless remote collaboration. Demand surges as authors use lockdown to finish manuscripts, and we bring on two additional editors to keep pace.

2022 — Launch services debut

Priya Nair joins full-time to lead distribution and marketing. The Launch package is introduced, offering end-to-end support from manuscript to market. Within six months, it becomes our most requested offering as authors recognise the value of a coordinated release strategy.

2024 — 850 books and counting

We celebrate our 850th completed book project and expand the team to twelve. The company moves into a dedicated studio space on Alex Crescent, Jenkinsview, with room for workshops, author consultations, and a growing reference library that now holds over 2,000 titles.

We are proud of how far we have come, but we are even more excited about what lies ahead. As the publishing landscape continues to evolve — with audiobooks, AI-assisted tools, and new distribution models reshaping the industry — BookWaveCore Digital is committed to staying at the forefront so our clients always have access to the best strategies and the most current expertise. If you have a book project in mind, we would love to hear about it. Reach out via our contact form or give us a call at +61 2 2131 1875.
